Mt.Fuji,Chubu

The 3776m Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan and the nation’s leading tourist destination/World Heritage. It is also known as a great power spot among local people. Listed in the World Heritage is actually not just the mountain but consolidation of several monuments and shrines as “Mt. Fuji, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration”.

Oshino-Hakkai is one of such monuments that constitutes Mt. Fuji as a World Heritage. There are eight ponds of spring water that are filled with very clear underground water of the mountain. The ponds have been the sacred place for water practice by ascetics and are still an important fountain to provide water to the people in the region.

The ponds are scattered in a small village, said to be in the setting of the Big Dipper and the Polaris, so you can walk to trail all the eight in a cozy environment.
