Tsukiji Fish Market is certainly one of the most popular places of interest in Tokyo so please prepare for the crowd if you go on a weekend.
Actually there is no longer a fish market. It has moved to Toyosu in 2018 as Tsukiji market could not accommodate the growing volume of the fish trades. However as Tsukiji had been the largest fish market in Japan for a century, many of the retailers and fish trading middlemen are still doing business in Tsukiji Outer Market. They sell not only fresh and frozen seafood but other Japanese traditional foods like Himono(salted dried fish), Nerimono(cooked ground fish), Tsukemono(pickles), Tsukudani(simmered seaweed, etc.), Tamagoyaki(Japanese omelet ), etc.
Many shops also offer ready-to-eat meals so that tourists can pick up a variety of such foods, which can easily replace your breakfast or lunch.
When you visit Tsukiji, do not forget to visit a nearby Namiyoke Shrine which is a small shrine but has a lot of interesting things to see.
